The Castle of Uzzano, steeped in history was built around the year one thousand, expanded over the centuries and later transformed during the sixteenth and seventeenth century. Owned by aristocratic Florentine family Uzzano, it reached its apex of fame at the beginning of the fifteenth century as Castello di Uzzano was one of the fortified castles of the Florentine Republic. The first published importance of the wine in Uzzano was documented in a bank statement dated 1398. Merchants of that period purchased and sold the wine produced at Uzzano throughout European markets. At the end of the nineteenth century, the wines were exported to the United States. Today the Castle has been transformed into the Luxury Aristocratic Florentine Villa in Greve producing outstanding examples of Sangiovese from this Terroir.
Located in Western Italy, the Tuscany region is known for its wine-making tradition.
